Cloudflare vs AWS is a dead heat across the top 1,000 websites
Published Oct 19, 2026 · Stats update daily
Cloudflare and AWS are in a dead heat at the front door of the 1,000 busiest websites. Cloudflare's CDN & Security layer serves 203 of them (20.5% share) and AWS serves 197 (19.9%). Akamai still has the largest share, at 26.6%.
In the top 100, Cloudflare pulls ahead of AWS, 22% to 13%. The biggest US companies look different: Akamai still leads the main websites of the Fortune 500, with 149 of the 495 we've scanned. Cloudflare fronts 118 of those main websites and AWS fronts 51.
We check which vendor serves the CDN & Security layer of each site and each company's main website, and rescan weekly. The numbers on this page update after each scan.

How to read this
- Each site counted once: a site split across providers is split evenly. Traffic-weighted (Fortune 500): busier hostnames count more.
- "AWS" means CloudFront plus sites served straight from AWS with no CDN. AWS WAF and Shield aren't counted on their own.
- Only AWS, Azure and Google Cloud are counted as hyperscalers. Cloudflare and Akamai are edge networks.
- Numbers refresh after each scan, using each site's and company's latest data. No changes over time are shown yet; that needs two weeks of weekly scans. Methodology.
